Banning of TikTok App in India

One of the trending apps over the social media during these days is the TikTok. It is an app which immediately became popular due to its amazing and interesting features. TikTok allows the app users to make a video of themselves with dubbing. The app also helps the users to be creative of their video dubbing. Through this, video uploaders can get more tiktok fans.

TikTok was also collaborated with musical.ly. This app alliance produces a larger coverage of audiences ranging from teens to young adults. Due to this, TikTok became one of the best Google Play apps in 2018. Unfortunately, its shine surpassed especially among the Indian market. The reason behind this is that the government of India wanted to ban the app in the whole country. But, this is a general ban and not only pertains to certain gender and politics.

Reason for TikTok Ban

Last April 3, 2019 in India, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court submitted an interim order against the TikTok app. They requested to the Indian government to stop the its downloading over the entire country.

Another order was passed to stop the media in broadcasting videos created using the app in the national public. The ban order was rooted from the involvement of children exposure and the usage of such app which reveal the users to sexuality, pornography, and other inappropriate details.

The ByteDance Withstand

On the other side of the court, ByteDance, the principal company which handle TikTok, contested in the Indian Supreme Court. They made an appeal that the app is similar with other social media platform. Banning only such app is an act of discrimination. TikTok’s principal company also protested that there is only a small percentage of content that is considered inappropriate for users.

The Final Decision

During this stage of court hearing and appeals, the decision of the Supreme Court was not to interfere with the ban yet. However, the app was still removed from Google Play and Apple App Store by a direct request of the Government of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to Google and Apple. With this, the TikTok app, even its Lite version, cannot be downloaded from Play Store all over India.

After several court proceedings in Madras High Court, TikTok lawyers appealed that there are various technology that could block the uploading of nude content using the app. Hearing this and all other arguments, Madras High Court jumped into conclusion that the main concern here is the online protection of children users against cybercrime. With this, the ban was lifted by the Court provided that pornographic videos will not be uploaded via the said app.

The company is so glad for the decision of the court and through that the whole Indian community would also warmly welcomed the app.

Last May 31, 2019, 36- years old Filipino Henry John Serafica Acorda, died after sustaining serious head injuries inflicted by a heavy-built Slovakian brute named Juraj Hossu.

The beating incident happened during the early hours of May 26, 2019, after Henry and a Filipina friend came out of a pizza joint in a busy street of Bratislava, capital of Slovakia. It was then when Juraj H.came up to them and tried to force Henry’s female friend to ride with him in a taxi. Henry tried to reason with the Slovakian, but was cut short when the violent man immediately hit Henry.

As the Filipino was sprawled on the sidewalk, the Slovakian brute continued to kick and hit Hentry in the head, even as the latter was already unconscious. The incident was captured on tape by the CCTV of a nearby establishment.

Henry John was in Slovakia as a financial analyst working for a multinational company for more than a year. He was actually transferred to Slovakia from his original post in Malaysia. Henry’s mother and sister was supposed to visit Henry in the coming spring, but the tragedy marred the family’s planned reunion in Slovakia, Henry’s mother and sister did go to see Henry, but only to mourn and bring home his remains to the Philippines.

Word came out that Juraj Hossu, Henry’s assailant, was released by the police immediately after the senseless killing. Hossu was re-arrested after an uproar from Slovakian citizens denounced the injustice, whilst condemning their countryman whom they suspect of being a racist.

Juraj Hossu’s Facebook account, as many had noted, had a post endorsing the “Ku Klux Klan outfit not bad” message. Another post, a Russian vodka bottle with a “white power’ caption, was also taken as a sign that Juraj Hossu believed in the “white supremacy” ideology.
