Draconian Rule Of Many Governments Affecting Our Right To Receive Factual News

In the midst of a pandemic, we need to receive factual and reliable news now more than ever. Unfortunately, it appears that the rampage of a deadly virus is not a reason for some people in power to protect their own interests. As we all know, the freedom of the press is what ensures that the information we are getting from the newspaper and TV programs are fact-based and unbiased. It is this freedom to determine the truth and deliver this truth as it is to the public that protects us from the dangerous vested interest of certain personalities. By stripping off press freedom, we can’t be sure that the information we are reading or hearing somewhere is correct.

Why do governments show interest to control the material coming out of the press media? We might all be familiar already with leaders calling out news outlets for spreading fake news against them.

For one, it is true that the spread of fake news must be stopped, but what makes fake news fake? Do they only call a news fake when it holds the ugly truth about them?

It Is Our Time To Step Up When Journalists Are Being Silenced To Bring Out The Truth

From every corner of the world, we can hear stories of governments tightening their grip to power and influence by silencing their critics. What is worse is the fact that those who are merely delivering the news to the public are also being silenced. The media is supposedly a neutral entity, but it is now being targeted by draconian rule in an effort to filter all the information that the people will hear.

In this case, we are certain that democracy is under blatant attack by the very people that should be protecting it for our sake. This is our time to step up and be the voice of the media, demanding the truth and nothing but the truth. Knowing that the government uses our taxes to fund their every action, we should not give them a free pass to do such a vile thing.

 

At the end of the day, truth shall prevail. There are no usps hours to be wasted in protecting democracy. Let our voices be heard to let the government know that we will not allow anyone to manipulate the news and information for his or her personal gain, because every fact is a matter of life and death for the ordinary people.

Poor Living Conditions Of Migrant Children In US Detention Camps Could Reflect The Country’s Actual View On Immigrants

Since the 2016 Presidential Election campaign period, US President Donald Trump has been vocal about his opinion on illegal immigrants staying in the country. Upon assuming his post in the White House, President Trump laid his platforms and proposed changes in the immigration policies, much to the dismay of other leaders who are against stripping away the rights of migrants seeking refuge in the United States peacefully. In spite of all the criticisms, the president refused to back down on acting against illegal aliens inside the country.

Perhaps the most controversial measure done by the Trump administration so far is separating the undocumented migrants from their children. The children are detained inside detention camps, while their captured parents are subjected to deportation to the country where they came from. While the act of separating innocent and helpless children from their parents is cruel enough, there are reports that these children staying inside these detention centers are suffering from unbearable living conditions.

Detention Camps Made To Be Susceptible To Spread Of Diseases, A Physician Said

A group of lawyers and physicians has decided to visit some of the border facilities in Texas upon a reported flu outbreak in these detention centers. The group made an assessment on the detention facilities in McAllen and Clint, Texas, and based on the observation on the field, the conditions in both facilities are unbearable, to the extent that the children living inside these detention centers are like staying inside a torture chamber. To note, these detention centers are within the Texas county. This place is known to boast some of the expert doctors in the country, just like the orthopaedic and surgeon in Austin.

According to Dolly Lucio Sevier, a physician who did the assessment in the two facilities, the condition inside the camps can be compared to that in a torture facility, something that little children cannot survive daily. The group observed the lack of access to medical care, basic sanitation, nutrition, and water. There are teens interviewed inside the camps who revealed that they are not able to wash their hands due to lack of facilities. Even the mother of infants inside the camps have no access to a lavatory where they can wash infant bottles.

With all these details, an inference can be made that the detention centers have no intention of making the children safe from illnesses. What is worse is that in spite of these reports, the government remains firm on their current measures. For one, a government official claimed that giving the children decent washing facilities is not important, and even providing the children soap and tooth paste is already too much for the authorities to give. This, coming from the government itself, can influence the mindset of the public, knowing how big the politics’ influence on the society is.
